What’s Included in an Amazon Rainforest Tour in Bolivia?
When it comes to booking an Amazon rainforest tour in Bolivia, there are plenty of unique experiences that go with it.
A typical tour includes guided hikes through the jungle to explore some of the most breathtaking scenery and unique opportunities to see native wildlife like monkeys and sloths.
Many tours include boat trips down the rivers where you can spot pink dolphins or paddleboard through flooded forests.
Why Should I Choose the Amazon Rainforest in Bolivia?
Bolivia is one of the most affordable countries to visit when exploring the Amazon rainforest. Compared to its neighboring countries, Peru and Brazil.
With incredible wildlife and unique topography, Bolivia offers some of the best jungle tours in South America. Make sure to plan if you’re looking to explore this area, as prices are much more affordable than in other countries. Prices range between $200-$400 per person depending on the type of tour you choose.
Bolivia offers much lower prices for accommodation and tours. And despite being more affordable, you will still get all the same incredible experiences that other countries provide, maybe more!
We spent $298 per person for our 3-day pampas tour. The tour included a private bungalow at a beautiful eco-lodge, meals, and transportation to & from Rurrenabaque. Flights to & from La Paz. The tour also included hiking, swimming with pink dolphins, fishing for piranhas, and the most incredible bird watching.
Bolivia is the only Amazonian country that has rare pink dolphins! Which, of course, you can swim with!

How to get to Rurrenabaque, Bolivia Near the Amazon
Almost all tours leave from the Rurrenabaque. A small town is known for being the best starting point for your multi-day journey in the amazon.
If you are starting your Bolivia adventure in Santa Cruz or La Paz, you have two options to get to Rurrenabque.
- Bus ride – Usually the best way to get around in South America. But maybe not to Rurrenabaque. This option will take about 30+ hours and roughly USD 12.
- Fly to Rurrenabaque – More expensive but worth it! About USD 99 each way and a 40-minute flight. It is easy, comfortable, quick, and the safest option!
Note- I highly recommend booking a package with Kanoo tours. We booked the package that included flights. Kanoo tours handle purchasing your flights and any arrangements if your flight is delayed or canceled.

What Else Should I Know Before Booking My Trip to the Amazon?
- The most important thing when booking your trip is ensuring that your tour provider is eco-friendly and follows sustainable tourism practices.
- Two tour companies are the best for both travelers and locals. Mashaquipe Eco-lodge & Bala Tours, these two companies are dedicated to providing jobs and keeping up with sustainable practices to benefit the indigenous population.
- It’s also important to note that due to its remote location within South America, Bolivian Amazon tours tend to be longer than those offered by other countries, typically lasting anywhere from 3-5 days or more.
- Make sure you plan for any extra supplies you may need during your stay!
- There are no ATMs in Pampas, be prepared to bring extra cash just in case you need extra repellent or want to enjoy an ice-cold beer one afternoon.
- You can choose two different experiences, the Pampas and the Jungle tour.
- The pampas lay on the outskirts of the amazon jungle. With the experience, you can stay at an eco-lodge, swim with Pink Dolphins and fish, and do some intermediate trekking.
- The Jungle tour is for the more adventurous, experienced travelers. This trek can last anywhere from 5-7 days through the jungle. Your guide will teach you how to fish for your meals, set up camp, and enjoy the beautiful Amazon rainforest and all it offers.
Hot Tip: Try to do both if you can!

When to visit?
Bolivia offers a chance to immerse oneself in the incredible Amazon rainforest and depending upon personal preference, you can find the perfect trip there.
From November to March, the wet season brings lush greenery and heavy rains. You will experience the river’s vastness, see some anacondas and enjoy the newborn pink dolphins right out front of your eco-lodge.
On the other hand, during the dry season from May to October, clear skies provide views of faraway mountains and less foliage coverage. The river is lower, providing you with the opportunity for easy fishing, trekking, and warm and dry, beautiful days.
No matter which season you prefer, pack light clothing suitable for hot temperatures during the day.
Overall, if you’re looking for an exciting adventure without breaking your budget, an Amazon rainforest in Bolivia should be on your list! With its stunning scenery and fascinating wildlife encounters, it’s no wonder why so many people choose this country as their destination when exploring this natural wonderland.
